Last night I even took the clonazepam to help me sleep through the night and it just didn't work. I just don't know what to do anymore. Every day I sit here and get sleepier and sleepier, but I can't even nap when Livvie does because during the day I can't shut off my brain enough to fall asleep.
I tried Lunesta back when I first started seeing the headologist and had this problem, and it was a joke. It didn't help me fall asleep, it didn't help me stay asleep, it did nothing. I'm afraid to take Ambien because of the sleep walking/driving/eating side effects that can happen.
I know that for some people the answer is to get more exercise and wear yourself out, but the only time I would have to do so is after Rich gets home at 430, and you're really not supposed to exercise past 4 because it will actually stimulate you so that you can't sleep.
Therefore I'm stumped.
I wish I could be like normal people and sink into my covers and remain there all night long without tossing and turning. I wish I didn't wake up when Rich comes into the room and remain awake for up to an hour. I wish that when I do fall asleep I didn't snore, which also wakes me up.
I don't know if this is hypomania or not. It doesn't feel like it. I also don't feel depressed. I just want and need to sleep.

I have never, ever in my entire life been able to get into bed, snuggle down and go to sleep.
Every night it is a battle for me, if I could live without sleeping I would, just to save myself the aggravation of 'trying' to sleep.
Warm milk? LOL

Take a look at what you drink and eat before bed-get rid of all things with sugar and caffine at least a few hours before sleep. Other than that I don't have a clue. I always have a hard time getting to sleep, but usually am able to sleep until Max the monster wakes me at 5:30 :-).
Good luck.
If you're not normal, I'm not either. Mike is one of those guys who can fall asleep 5 minutes after hitting the pillow, sleep through his own snoring, and sleep through the night until he's ready to wake up refreshed. Not me.
When I get in an insomnia cycle, it takes me a long time to unwind enough to even go to sleep, and then I wake up all night long. Repeatedly, I have to try to go back to sleep. Luckily, I haven't had one of those cycles for a while, or at least, until recently when the A/C died and made it just too damn hot to sleep.
Here are some things that have worked very well for me in the past:
Black-out shades. Found some really cheap ones at bedtimeplace.com. When it's really, really dark, I start to feel sleepy.
No TV, laptop, grading papers in the bedroom. The bed is for sleeping and sex, only. Once in a great while, I might read a little before dropping off, but even that's risky because I can get into a story and stay awake.
Routine. If I do the same things every night before bed, I get trained into, "Oh that's right. After I do this, this, and this, I go to sleep."
Sunlight early in the day. Getting a little natural sun as early in the day as you can, as often as possible, will reset your internal clock.
Valerian root. Non-habit forming, and no drugged effect whatsoever. Tastes horrible and will cause heartburn if you take it on an empty stomach, though. Save it for a last resort.
None of these can hurt, right? Maybe try one or two until you find what works for you. Good luck!
Good suggestions.
But I think it's probably pre hypo if not full on hypo. I don't sleep without drugs. Ever. I'd say give the doc a call, if the clonazepam isn't working maybe they need to up your dosage or try you on a different benzo. You NEED to sleep and they need to help you.
I hope you can sleep soon. Big hugs.
What if you exercise for an hour when Rich gets home. Then you can spend the remainder of time you are awake letting your body calm down. I have heard you are not supposed to exercise before bed, but I thought that meant an hour or two before bed. Also, can you force yourself to not go near the bedroom until 10? You could always try both. If nothing happens well you will not have lost anything as you already can not sleep now. Or option C, have Rich hit you on the head, knocking you out at bedtime. Whichever. :-p
